New BMW 5-Series Touring coming for your babies

BMW Group has just released some photos and details on the new 5-Series Touring set to premier next month at the Geneva International Motor Show. The car won’t be available until June this year and NZ pricing and spec will only be revealed closer to that time but what we do know so far is:-

  • both petrol and diesel engine variants in 4 and 6-cylnder configurations;
  • xDrive all-wheel drive option;
  • 8-speed automatic;
  • more head, shoulder, knee and legroom for passengers. The extra width of the car now means up to three child seats can be secured across the back seat (scary having that many screaming kids on board at any one time);
  • luggage capacities of 570 litres / 1700 litres (rear seat up / down);
  • electric remote backrest release;
  • separately-opening rear window, hands-free tailgate operation;
  • assorted driver assistance systems including the ability to have the car adjust it’s speed according to the appropriate restrictions as detected by the car;
  • BMW Connected technology allowing your phone and car to work as one. (e.g. send a navigation destination from your phone to the car and the car can calculate the ideal departure time based on the real time traffic info it accesses.)

Those Bavarians think of everything.
