Ford Motor Company Is Introducing Its Next-generation Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Development Vehicle, Just In Time For CES And The North American International Auto Show In January.

The New Vehicle Uses The Current Ford Autonomous Vehicle Platform, But Ups The Processing Power With New Computer Hardware. Electrical Controls Are Closer To Production-ready, And Adjustments To The Sensor Technology, Including Placement, Allow The Car To Better See What’s Around It. New LiDAR Sensors Have A Sleeker Design And More Targeted Field Of Vision, Which Enables The Car To Now Use Just Two Sensors Rather Than Four, While Still Getting Just As Much Data.

Who’s going to drive you home?

A new report just published in the USA has listed Ford Motor Company as the leader in autonomous vehicle technology. The criteria that the reports authors, Navigant Research, used were:-

vision;
go-to market strategy;
partners;
production strategy;
technology;
sales, marketing and distribution;
product capability;
product quality and reliability;
product portfolio;
and staying power

This is big win for Ford as it ranks the company at the top of a very strong list of other players in the field…
1. Ford
2. GM
3. Renault-Nissan Alliance
4. Daimler
5. Volkswagen Group
6. BMW
7. Waymo
7. Volvo/Autoliv/Zenuity
9. Delphi
10. Hyundai Motor Group

Notable absences in this hyper-tech ranking include Google, Tesla and Uber.

Just goes to show… knowing all about cars and how people drive them is still the best place to come from when building technology that will see drivers become largely redundant.
